If you’re an aspiring author ready to bring your work to life, I am here to guide you through every stage of the writing and publishing journey. From initial concept to final print, my goal is to ease your concerns and ensure a seamless transition through the publishing process. With expert support, I’ll help you navigate the complexities of authoring, editing, design, and production, allowing you to focus on what you do best—creating your story. Let’s work together to make your book a reality, with a smooth and stress-free experience from start to finish.
Step 1: New-Client Meeting
For all new clients, I like to begin by providing an overview of the publishing process. This will help you start thinking about the options that best suit your work and goals. By the end of our discussion, you’ll have the knowledge you need to move forward, whether you choose to continue with my support or embark on the journey independently. Below are some of the key topics we’ll cover in our first meeting.
- Getting a book ready for publication
- Choosing between traditional publishing and self publishing
- Identifying your market
- Editing and reviewing your book
- Establishing your brand
- Reviewing publisher expectations
What do authors think of this new-client meeting?
As an aspiring author, I felt that I needed to get a better understanding of the nuts and bolts of getting a book published. A recent Boston Globe article on Curran Press in Rockport, MA gave me the push that I needed to begin the process by contacting a publisher. This morning I had a two-hour conversation with the Owner of Curran Press. The information that I got from this conversation is mind-boggling. My advice to anyone who is even thinking of writing a book is: “Talk to this lady first—before you even put one word on paper. You’ll be glad you did!” —Michael Robert Cave, Wellesley, MA
Step 2: Prepare Your Work
Once you’ve decided how you’d like to proceed, I’m here to assist you with every step of preparing your work for publication, including development editing and copyediting.
Step 3: Publish Your Work
Most authors choose between traditional publishing and self publishing. I am prepared to help you navigate your way through either one.
- traditional publishing: prepare manuscript and query letters
- self publishing: prepare financials and schedules, manage the design process (provide layout advice, work with third-party designer), and manage the publication process
If you choose to publish your work digitally, I am pleased to assist you with that as well!
Step 4: Promote Your Work
Before and after your book’s publication date, I will advise you on the right direction for author branding, promotional efforts, and sales techniques.
Step 5: Enjoy Your Work
There is nothing more satisfying than holding a finished book in your hands. While the work to promote your book will have a direct impact on any sales success, you should feel good about your accomplishment and do your best to enjoy it!
